Dive Machine is pleased to be able to offer this incredible Diving trip for August 2007, we will be diving again the well known stunning reefs of Daedalus, Zabargad and Rocky, just to name a few. These site are well known for the large Pelagics that cruise around the reef. Commonly seen on these sites are; Reef Sharks, Hammerheads, White tips, Manta's, Bumphead Wrasse, schooling Barracuda as well as the many other species of fish and fauna. My past experience on these sites have revealed all of the above to the great delight and excitement of our previous divers.
Typically we arrive in Marsa Alam airport, take a short 20 minute bus ride to Port Galib and board M.Y. Blue Seas. Then Cruise off South for some of the most spectacular reef and wall diving in the Southern Red Sea. On our tour you may even encounter Dugong's, the saltwater equivalent of the Mantee more commonly known as a Sea Cow. When you see these gracefull creature it is not surprising to see how sailors beleived they had discovered mermaids, mind you I am sure they must have downed a little rum. So what about the diving:-
Daedalus Reef
Here you will encounter a submerged reef table, which is identified by a lighthouse with a long causeway. Daedalus boasts some exceptional coral growth, and its location in the middle of the sea, surrounded by depths up to 500m, makes it home to several big pelagic species. This is incredibly awesome as a dive site. "Like Ras Mohammed but just 500% more WOW!!"
Zabargad Island
The Corals that surround the island lies in striking contrast to the barren expanse of land at the surface. Travel round to the east side where there are several coral towers that are easily accessible to the diver, and several sites ideal for night diving.
This island was once exploited by the ancient Egyptians and Romans for its precious green olivine mineral, and it is still an area of considerable interest for the likes of geologists.
Rocky Island
The East side of Rocky plummets to well over 1000m, where large pelagic fish and Hammerhead sharks abound, sometimes in excess of 100 or more. Diving here is about finding a good position, then lying in wait. Oceanic white tips sharks are a common sight as they cruise the shallow waters. On the corner large shoals of barracuda, tuna and jacks are abound. It's one of those sites where you just don't know where to look next. The deep canyons cut into the drop-offs are covered in beautiful gorgonians and soft corals not seen elsewhere in the Red Sea.
