Fiji is a small island nation in the South Pacific Ocean about 1,300 miles northeast of New Zealand’s North Island. The majority of Fiji’s islands were formed through volcanic activity started around 150 million years ago. The country comprises an archipelago of more than 332 islands (of which only 110 are inhabited), and more than 500 islets, amounting to a total land area of approximately 7,100 sq mi. The two major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, account for 87% of the population of almost 850,000. The capital of Suva is located on Viti Levu and most Fijians live on Viti Levu’s coasts, either in Suva or in smaller urban centres.
The Diving… The Fijian islands and atolls are embraced by a network of brilliant coral reefs and are known for their pelagic species. Divers here can see a variety of sharks and rays including manta, grey reef, hammerheads and silver tips along with schools of fish and colourful hard and soft corals. Drift dives, often with strong currents, over steep walls and pinnacles should be expected. However you will also spend time throughout the trip in sheltered lagoons and coral gardens where the reefs shelter the smaller critters too.
Land based attractions.. Set in the South Pacific the Fiji islands are the essence of a tropical island paradise. White sand beaches, swaying coconut trees, pristine oceans and waterways and a range of things to do and see that will appeal to the most discerning traveller. Optional Fiji shore based package On arrival into Viti Levu you will be met and escorted to the Volivoli Beach Resort where you will spend the night. The next day at around 1pm you will be met by the yacht crew and then escorted to S/Y Fiji Siren at 2pm.
