Becoming a PADI Assistant Instructor takes you from Divemaster to a level of Teaching Scuba Diving to others with the back-up of an OWSI Instructor or higher being around. If you’re not sure if instructing is for you, then the assistant instructor program gives you the chance to teach without completing the full OWSI program. Look below at what you can do as an assistant instructor. Completing a full IDC or attending an OWSI program after the AI course prepares you to sit the PADI Instructor Examination (IE) at a location of your choice. On passing the IE you are then prepared and ready to teach the core PADI programs anywhere in the world that you plan to go to. Many of our Instructors after completing the IE have great jobs either here in the UK or abroad in Malaysia, Thailand, Cayman, Indonesia, Australia to name just a few superb location’s. They have the job that others are envious of and a life of excitement, meeting new people and going places doing what you love and are passionate about.

As an Assistant Instructor you will be able to:
Conduct PADI Discover Scuba Diving experiences in a pool or confined water
Conduct PADI Seal Team and Master Seal Team Aqua-missions
Teach academic presentations under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
Present initial skills training under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor during confined open water dives
Evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
Under the direction of a PADI Instructor teach and certify the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Divers
Teach the Project AWARE Specialty courses
Teach the AWARE Coral Reef Conservation specialty course Under the direction of a PADI Instructor
Teach PADI Digital Underwater Photographer specialty courses after gaining the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty Instructor rating
During the assistant instructor course you will build upon your abilities as a Divemaster learning to:
Organise and supervise scuba diving activities develop your own teaching skills.
There is Knowledge development through home self-study, some quizzes, presentation lectures with our Course Director (Robert Varns) or one or more of our IDC staff instructor’s or master instructors.
You will complete the following:-
A Confined water skill review
Learn how to assess/develop candidate presentations in confined water
Candidate presentations in open water,
An open water rescue assessment
Your PADI Assistant Instructor Course consists of three main sections:
