Start your diving adventure today…

Itinerary:  Malapascua & Visayas (10 nights)
Dates:      10th – 22nd October 2018
Aboard:    S/Y Philippine Siren

The Vessel…
The 40 metre S/Y Philippine Siren liveaboard was built on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi in 2008. Hand crafted from ironwood and teak (traditional to the area), you will find no other diving

liveaboard as beautiful in Philippine waters. Each cabin is air-conditioned and offers its own personal computer, audio-visual entertainment system and en-suite bathrooms with hot water. For added luxury bathrobes, hair dryers and towels are provided. The spacious, air-conditioned saloon benefits from a cocktail bar, 50 inch flatscreen TV and computer server which supports the inter-cabin network. Dining is outdoors under a covered area with uninterrupted views of the Pacific Ocean. An expansive dive and leisure deck provides ample space for kitting up, even when the vessel is full.

The Diving…
This 10 night liveaboard adventure allows up to 33 dives (including night dives) and takes you to the beautiful regions of Malapascua and Visayas, allowing you to experience some of the best diving in the Philippines.

Itinerary Highlights include…

Gato Island
A marine reserve and seasnake sanctuary, the island of Gato provides a diverse range of marine life; cuttlefish can be seen performing their mating rituals whilst white tip reef sharks seek shelter under bommies and a plethora of macro critters command the sea floor. There are several sites around the small island which we visit.

Pescador Island
The tiny offshore island of Pescador attracts large schools of sardines; just seeing the wall of fish is spectacular in itself but these sardines have also been known to bring some large friends with them! Fortunate divers have been lucky enough to see whalesharks and thresher sharks here. Other large pelagics include dog tooth tuna, potato groupers and yellow-tail barracuda. Oceanic triggerfish, midnight snappers and blue-lined fusiliers as well as trumpet fish, box fosh, turtles, angle fish and batfish are commonly seen.

Sumilon Island

Sumilon Island is where blacktip and white tip reefs sharks are known to frequent the waters. The sanctuaries also support numerous fish species and healthy coral growth. Sightings of tuna, batfish, trevally and unicorn fish are common and there is also a wide variety of crustaceans.

Apo Island

Apo Island Marine Reserve is one of most successful marine sanctuaries to be to be established in the Philippines. Night diving is unfortunately not permitted however a sunset dive at The Chapel provides a superb opportunity to watch mandarin fish mating.

Balicasag Island
The small island of Balicasag, just off the tip of Panglao is characterised for its many turtles, coral gardens and steep walls which provide overhangs, cracks and crevices in which to search for a variety of marine species.

All dive sites are subject to weather conditions and cannot be guaranteed.

Maldives Liveaboard 5th – 13th January 2019

Start your Maldives adventure today…

Itinerary:  Pelagic Encounters
Dates:      5th – 13th January 2019
Aboard:    M/Y blue Voyager
The Vessel…

Originally sailing as a blue o two fleet vessel in the Red Sea, M/Y blue Voyager was fully refurbished in 2017 ready for her move to the Maldives. M/Y blue Voyager is a 37 metre, steel hulled vessel that boasts three spacious double and ten twin cabins. She features a separate outdoor dining area, bar and sky lounge, as well as a luxurious Jacuzzi.
M/Y blue Voyager benefits from a separate tender and diving dhoni which allows for the best use of space on the liveaboard to explore the pearls of the Indian Ocean in comfort. The vessel is also equipped with a nitrox membrane, booster pump and camera station.
The Itinerary…
This itinerary travels further south to Vaavu with the purpose of seeking out the larger pelagics. More channel diving is offered to maximise your chance of ‘big fish’ encounters and manta cleaning stations are also visited.
Itinerary highlights…
**PLEASE NOTE**
the dive sites below are just an example of the route taken and are not guaranteed. All dives sites are subject to weather conditions and local seasonal knowledge and the final route taken is at the absolute discretion of the captain and dive guides.
Fish Head
Fish Head also known as Shark Point or Mushimasmingili Thila, fits the classic definition of a Thila – a large isolated flat top reef rising sharply from the inner atoll floor at 40 to 50m to around 10m from the surface. It is one of the best sites for seeing sharks. Featuring a series of caves and overhangs in between where you can see thousands of blueline snappers against a backdrop of black coral bushes and large gorgonians.
Miyaru Faru
Unsurprisingly given that ‘miyaru’ means shark in Dhivehi, sharks feature prominently at this North Male spot! At around 30 metres there is an overhang which can shield you from the strength of the passing current, and with an incoming current the visibility can be excellent and the parade of pelagics and local residents, impressive. You might see a number of grey reef sharks as well as barracuda, kingfish and tuna. Large groups of eagle rays and their larger cousins, the manta rays, are often seen here, filter feeding in the plankton-rich water.
Fotteyo Kandu
Many scuba divers consider Fotteyo Kandu (Vaavu Atoll) to be the best dive site in Maldives and it is also rated among the top 5 dive sites in the world. The mouth of the channel is exposed to the ocean and during north east monsoon when the currents are incoming, a good variety of fish species gather at the entrance to the channel. Animals commonly spotted here include grey reef shark patrolling the

channel mouth, jack and tuna in the deeper water, schools of midnight snappers and red snapper form in huge groups. The wall features caves, overhangs and swim-throughs at different depths. These caves and overhangs are filled with colourful yellow colour like soft coral, deeper caves and overhangs are filled with huge bushes of black corals.
Guraidhoo Kandu South
Since the eastern side of the channel is open ocean, large predatory fish can regularly be spotted here. This site is famous for sightings of sharks, schools of eagle rays and the occasional sail fish and hammerheads. The best condition to do the dive is when the current is flowing into the atoll. The dive begins on the outer reef following the current into the atoll. Most of the pelagic species can be observed on the eastern side, where the reef drops off into the deep ocean. At the end of the dive in the channel, along the reef you can find overhangs with plenty of soft coral growth and small fish.

All dive sites are subject to weather conditions and cannot be guaranteed.

£2,195 per person
Includes: Return flights from LON, 7 nights full board accommodation on vessel, visa, internal transfers, all diving, single 12lt cylinder, lead weights, tea, coffee and water.

Night Diver Specialty course

night dive 141216

Last Night was the evening that we completed the PADI Night Specialty course with students at Holborough Lakes.

It was a beautiful clear crisp evening with a full moon, ideal for the final night dive of the three dive specialty.

It was lovely and quite so we had the lake almost to ourselves. The visibility was a fantastic 7-8 meters and with similar water temperatures.

Our students and pleasure divers witnessed the apex predator of the lake ‘the pike’ indulging in a rather large perch.  The perch was of such a size that the pike was having some difficulty swallowing it, due to the dorsal fins on the perch.  This did cause some excitement and was a first for a lot of the divers in the group.

Thank you to everyone that came and assisted with the dive last night, your help is always appreciated.

You never know what is going to happen at night and this just goes to show that a frequently dived lake can still behold lots of possibilities and excitement even for well seasoned divers.

If you would like to join us for a dive or continue your own education then please don’t hesitate to contact us at the center.
